- The United States was the first nation to have a constitution.
- Not all countries have a constitution.
- Some countries have a set of laws and traditions that act in place of a Constitution including:
- United Kingdom
- Canada
- Isreal
- Saudi Arabia
- Only 12 of the original 13 states attended the Constitutional Convention in 1787. Rhode Island boycotted.
- While the Constitution was created in 1787, it took until 1788 to obtain ratification by the required 9 states. It went into effect on March 4, 1789.
